Product Management and successful product teams
How do you bring customer problems to a team instead of spoonfeeding them a predefined solution? We will explore the pros and cons of these different approaches. We will also practice techniques to define customer problems. The key to problem solving is not so much coming up with a solution, but identifying how to deliver the most value. We are going to simulate this using a predefined problem definition (case study). We then explore how our proposed solution can be enriched by approaching the problem from different perspectives. This includes techniques such as empathy maps, customer segmentation, jobs to be done, personas, etc.

Chris is an award-winning product manager, martial artist, and author of the informative how-to-product manager book “The Product Samurai”. His mission is to revolutionize the way people make products. He is one of the inventors, creators, and Steward of the Product Owner Advanced training from Scrum.org.

Chris is Chief Product Officer at Expandior and is committed to Expandior’s mission every day: Raising your level of product management. By now he has coached hundreds of Product Managers, Product Owners, and C-level professionals to transform their companies into agile organizations. With his extensive experience in various startups and large companies such as Thales, Saab, TomTom, he bridges the gap between the technical world and the commercial world.

Chris is a regular blogger, active on Quora and also speaks at Microsoft TechDays and other product-focused conferences  in the Netherlands, Eastern Europe, and Asia.

As a passionate martial arts practitioner, he weaves the concepts of flow, balance, leverage and courage into his Product Owner training. He currently lives in Apeldoorn and learns the art of servant leadership from his four children and loving wife.

Product strategy
This part focuses on ingredients for a powerful product strategy. What product should we build, what value does the proposition have, how can we validate the success of the product, and how can we build a sustainable business strategy? Metrics about customer and company impact are also discussed.

Roadmapping
A plan is necessary to successfully implement the product strategy. We discuss how to plan for product success using different techniques to create roadmaps. We also investigate how we can validate assumptions about value and thus whether our proposition has viability.

Lifecycle management
Creating new products is great, but there comes a time when new products also enter a different phase of their life cycle. We therefore also discuss how a product should be managed through these different phases.

Stakeholder management
Product Management does not take place in isolation and apart from (potential) customers. There is often a complex landscape of stakeholders, both internal and external.

We investigate how you can manage and involve your stakeholders in product development. We also discuss how to engage them in a more data-driven approach to decision-making and validating value delivered.

Scaling
Finally, we look at Product Management at scale. We do not provide you with an off the shelf scaling framework that provides ready-made solutions. Instead, we investigate what you need to take into account when developing product in a larger organization and how you can manage dependencies between teams. We look at what is needed from you as a product professional at the portfolio level to make the right strategic decisions.

After a packed interactive program with discussions and case studies, it is time to complete the course. We reflect on the insights you have gained and how you will use them to make more impact in your role. We have not only examined commonly used techniques of mature product management, but also identified concrete steps that you can take to grow in your role as a product professional.

We proudly work for the following clients (among others)
